Believe: Applying the Wit & Wisdom of Ted Lasso to the Classroom

Clinic Synopsis:

During the height of the pandemic, the beloved character of Ted Lasso came into our world at a time when many of us needed a laugh and to be uplifted. While his character may not speak to everyone, the wit of the writing is certainly applicable to all of us. Biggers will look at many of these memorable quotes and show how their wisdom can be readily applied to many teaching situations.

Carter Biggers - Biographical Information

Carter Biggers, DMA, is Director of Bands, Associate Professor of Music, and Co-Lead in the Division of Music at Texas Woman’s University where he conducts all bands, oversees all aspects of the TWU band program and teaches courses in undergraduate music education. In 2023, he was awarded TWU Mary Mason Lyon Award for Distinguished Junior Faculty as well as the College of Arts and Sciences Distinction in Scholarship Award. Prior to his appointment to TWU in 2016, he was Assistant Director of Athletic Bands at Penn State University, and as a Graduate Teaching Fellow at the University of Iowa. In addition to his university teaching experiences, Dr. Biggers was a public school band director in Texas where his students and ensembles consistently received top ratings at local and state contests. Dr. Biggers is a passionate advocate for the creation of new wind band music, and is regularly involved in commissioning works by a diverse group of established as well as emerging composers. Other areas or research interests lie in diversity, equity and inclusion in programming practices as well as in educational materials for the primary and secondary classroom. Additionally, he is an active guest conductor, adjudicator and clinician, and he has authored articles in multiple state and national publications. He currently serves on the Executive Board of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) as College Division Vice-President. His professional affiliations include the CBDNA, TMEA, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, Pi Kappa Lambda and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
