Deborah Perkins, Ruth Kurtis - Biographical Information

Deborah Perkins, Ph. D., nationally known as a clinician and conductor, teaches at SMU and is known for building outstanding school orchestra programs in SC, FL and TX. Her contributions to the “Recipes for Success” have come from learning how to work smarter, to juggle many string-ed projects with family life. Driven by the desire to help students reach their musical potentials, working more efficiently became her only option. Ruth Kurtis is a thirty year veteran of public school teaching who has recently retired from the McKinney ISD in Texas where she built the orchestra program from 72 to 650 students district-wide in only three years. In the process of developing outstanding programs, effective organization became essential to Ruth’s sanity. Showcasing her students on the stage and developing team-oriented musicians has been a hallmark of her student’s exceptional success.
