Catherine Hudnall - Biographical Information

Dr. Catherine Hudnall received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, her master’s degree from Georgia State University, and her doctoral degree from Mercer University. She has taught in South Carolina, Hawai’i, and Georgia. In addition to directing the South Carolina and Mississippi All-State Orchestras, she has been a guest director of the Emory Youth Symphony and the Gwinnett Philharmonic and was the co-director of the Gwinnett County Youth Symphony for six years. She is an active clinician, conductor, and adjudicator in the state of Georgia and has presented sessions and clinics at the Georgia Music Educators Conference, the Woodruff Arts Center Conference, and the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago. She has also adjudicated in Hawai’I, Nevada, and will serve as an adjudicator in New Mexico at the American String Teachers Association National Orchestra festival in 2019. In 2018, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Georgia Chapter of ASTA.A professional cellist, she performs with the Candler String Quartet and has performed with many orchestras, including the Maui Symphony, the Atlanta Pops Orchestra, the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, the Gwinnett Philharmonic Orchestra, the Augusta Symphony, the Charleston Symphony, and the Columbia Symphony. She studied cello with Martha Gerschefski and Hans Schmettau and was a member of the first International Cello Congress Cello Choir, conducted by Mistislav Rostropovitch.Dr. Hudnall currently teaches at Brookwood High School in Gwinnett County, an Orchestra program that serves over 350 students in five orchestras.  She is a member of the National Association for Music Educations, the American String Teachers Association, the Performing Arts Medical Association, and the Andover Educators (as an affiliate).  Her orchestras have performed at Carnegie Hall, the ASTA national conference, the Georgia Music Educators Conference, and at various festivals and venues throughout the United States and Canada.  She teaches cello privately and is a teacher and consultant of Healthy Musicianship. She and her family live in Tucker with their beloved dog, River.
