Clinic Synopsis:

What’s Your Secret?! Information, ideas, techniques, and advocacy for beginning band recruitment. Over 200 band directors shared their best practices and strategies for recruitment. From pre-recruitment letters to end of process reflection, this presentation details what professionals are doing to help build their beginning band programs, provides information for new teachers, and great new ideas for veterans.

James Colombo - Biographical Information

James Colombo is the Director of Bands for Hauser Junior High in Riverside, IL and co-marching band director for the A.A. Stagg Marching Chargers in Palos Hills, IL. The ensembles at Hauser regularly receive superior ratings at the Illinois Grade School Music Association District Band Festivals. In addition to his duties at Hauser Junior High, James is an active clinician and adjudicator in Illinois. He has also given presentations at the Illinois Music Educators Conference and the Iowa Music Educators Association Conference He holds an Undergraduate and Masters of Music Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. James is a member for the NAfME, NBA, and the International Horn Society.

Brad Meyer - Biographical Information

Brad Meyer is currently the Assistant Band Director at Hauser Jr. High School in Riverside, IL. Brad graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Music Education and in 2011 completed his Masters of Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He spent six years as Director of Bands at Brookwood Jr. High School in Glenwood, IL before arriving in Riverside. The ensembles at Hauser regularly receive superior ratings at the Illinois Grade School Music Association District Band Festivals. Brad is an active percussionist in the Chicagoland area and a member of NAfME and the Percussive Arts Society.
