Day One - Sax

Clinic Synopsis:

Day one clinics are presented by master teachers who have demonstrated a high degree of success in providing sound pedagogical methods for teaching beginning students, or in assisting more advanced students who may have developed bad habits detrimental to producing characteristic tone and/or habits detrimental to technical mastery. Day One clinics will take place in an intimate and personal space so that each attendee may enjoy a close view of demonstrated techniques.

Kim Bain - Biographical Information

Kim Bain retired as director of bands at Louis Pizitz Middle School in Vestavia Hills, Alabama in May 2021. For thirty-four years ensembles under her leadership were consistently cited for musical excellence at both the state and national levels. In 2015, Ms. Bain and the Louis Pizitz Symphonic Band performed at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago. The Louis Pizitz Band was also declared the 2015 winner of the National Band Association’s Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence. The Louis Pizitz Band was selected as a recipient of the coveted John Philip Sousa Sudler Cup in 2013. The Pizitz Symphonic and Concert Bands also performed at the 2013 Music for All-National Middle School Music Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana. In January 2020, her band performed at the Alabama Music Educators state conference. She holds a Bachelor of Science in music education, a Master of Arts in music education, and an education specialist degree from the University of Alabama. She also holds a Master of Music degree in saxophone performance from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.  Ms. Bain is an active freelance musician in the Birmingham area. Since retirement from public school teaching, she is an instructor of saxophone and music education at Samford University and an adjunct instructor in music education at the University of Alabama.
