Clinic Synopsis:

Provide your students with a foundation of tools to respond with stylistic relevancy in music performance. The ability to respond to music with stylistic articulation, emotional expression, and appropriate musical interpretation is critical to the affective process of performance. Learn practical exercises and activities to incorporate into daily rehearsal fundamentals.

Shelley Jagow - Biographical Information

Dr. Shelley Jagow is Professor of Music at Wright State University (Dayton, OH) where she serves as Director of Bands conducting both the Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony, and teaches instrumental conducting. “Dr. J” advocates for programming diverse and inclusive repertoire, and encourages classroom teaching where all students feel they belong. As an artist clinician with Conn-Selmer, Vandoren-DANSR, Meredith Music, and GIA Music, “Dr. J” enjoys working with school bands and presents clinics, performances, adjudications, and serving as honor band conductor at various state, national and international events. Shelley is a regular, contributing author to the Teaching Music Through Performance in Band series (GIA Music), and is author of the book Teaching Instrumental Music: Developing the Complete Band Program (2nd edition)(Meredith Music)—a resource rapidly becoming the adopted textbook for music education degree study across the United States and Canada. Additional book publications include Tuning for Wind Instruments: A Roadmap to Successful Intonation (Meredith Music), and Intermediate Studies for Developing Artists on the Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone and Bassoon (Meredith Music).
