Small School Demonstration Clinic

Clinic Synopsis:

The small community of Nashville, Illinois has fostered a music program since 1923 and is currently celebrating its 100th year of music. The music program enjoys great support from its community, as well as the school administration and school board. The NCHS Music Boosters support the program by raising funds, purchasing new instruments and uniforms, and by providing extra chaperones for parades, marching competitions, and trips.

Steve Browne - Biographical Information

Mr. Steve Browne has taught the last 18 years of his 22 year teaching career at Nashville Community High School. During his career, he has always taught both instrumental and vocal music. He is a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and has earned a Masters in Music Education from the University of Florida.  Mr. Browne is a National Board Certified teacher in Early Adolescence through Young Adulthood in Band. He has been the guest conductor for many junior high band festivals and high school choir clinics in Southern Illinois, and regularly judges solo and ensemble and organizational contests.  He has also served District 6 as band chair for the ILMEA District Festival and has judged district ILMEA choir auditions. Mr. Browne was chosen as the 2024 Citizen of the Year in Nashville, Illinois and has been a four time quarter finalist for the Music Educator Grammy. He has recently been part of the American Band Directors Marching Band that was featured in both the Rose Parade in Pasadena and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York. In his personal time, Mr. Browne plays drums and mandolin in a cover band, jazz band, and bluegrass band. He has had the honor of teaching his own children in his school’s music program; Trent (20), a music education major at Murray State University, and Addison (17), a senior who is a vocalist and plays multiple instruments. Steve has been married to his high school sweetheart, Jamie, for 23 years.
